The Ginza, Tokyo, at night

WONDERFUL TOKYO

by Nisha V.

Where to start with Tokyo! Without a doubt, this is the craziest city I have ever been to with so many unbelievable things to offer. I have been there several times and it never fails to surprise me.

I highly recommend planning your trip so that you will be in Tokyo on a Sunday and make sure you visit Harajuku on that day.
You could start off by visiting Meiji shrine, where there is a strong possibility of seeing a traditional Japanese wedding. It is amazingly peaceful, yet you would never think that you are smack bang in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world. Make sure that you do visit this on a Sunday, because just outside the shrine, in the direction of Yoyogi Park, you will find Japan’s youth culture choosing this day to fully express themselves in outrageous costumes. It’s amazing to visit and you will see a variety of outfits ranging from Goths to Elvis impersonators.

Besides the sights, I have to say that my favorite thing about Tokyo is its immense size! You cannot come here and not appreciate it. The best way in my opinion is to go to one of the skyscraper hotels in Shinjuku skyscraper district and go to one of the bars on the top floor. Admittedly, they can be a little pricey but well worth the experience. The bars themselves have really relaxing and classy atmosphere and the best seats are by the window. You can just look out and the lights of Tokyo will go on forever and it’s as if Tokyo has no end.
